Chloe Andrews ran to the bus. She covered her head with her hood, trying to avoid raindrops from watering her hair. She couldn’t stand the feeling of coldness on her skin. Finally, she made it, she entered her bus. She took off her wet jacket and threw her schoolbag to the nearest empty seat. She sat beside her schoolbag and put on her Ipod. She was very tired, because she had PE, accounting test, biology test, and physics quiz on that day. She winced at the thought of accounting test, which she could barely do it. She lost her care about physics already.
The air conditioner was turned on. The temperature slowly chilled inside. Chloe was smart enough not to put on her wet jacket. Then, she felt silly to wish Owen, her boyfriend, was there, and lending his jacket to her. It’s impossible. Owen’s 6 miles away from her. Chloe stared at the raindrops behind the window and slowly drifted to sleep.
* * *
Chloe woke up when she felt a sudden massive change of her Ipod’s volume. She turned down the volume and stared at the window. The rain stopped, but the sky was dark. She caught a glimpse of a ferris wheel. Wasn’t there where I and Owen-? Hey, the theme park’s stop should be aft- Damn, I missed my stop!
As soon as the bus stop, Chloe said bye to her schoolmates, grabbed her schoolbag and jacket, and got off the bus.
Chloe glanced at her watch, and realized she missed the last bus which went to her house’s direction. She texted her dad, asked him to pick her up.
3 minutes later, her father replied. He couldn’t pick her up until his meeting with his important client’s over. Chloe’s heart sank, knew that it would take hours.
She looked around. A big gate caught her attention. It’s the amusement park’s gate, the same gate where she and her friends entered when the prom got them bored.
Chloe went to the locket, bought the free-pass ticket, then entered the park. The park wasn’t crowded as usual, probably because of the rain.
Chloe walked pass the merry go round. She’s too grown up to take a ride on one of the little horses.
Suddenly, a man dressed in a vampire costume approached Chloe, grab her small hand, and pointed to the haunted house. Spontaneously, she let go of the vampire’s hands, which left a confused expression on his pale face. Chloe smiled, knowing her times wasted on aikido lessons are actually useful. Chloe’s too scared to go to the haunted house alone, because she had entered it with he friends on her previous visit, and concluded that the house is scary enough to give her friends nightmares for a week. Chloe shook her head politely.
As Chloe started to walk, she remembered the frightened looks on her friends’ faces after they went inside the haunted house. Her best friend, Claire, swore never to enter any haunted houses again. She missed Claire so much. She hadn’t meet Claire after her transfer to another school.
The rain started to pour. Chloe wasn’t care.
Chloe stopped in front of the mirror house. She remembered, when she was 9, she and Claire once got lost there for hours and cried there together, until a security guard found them. She never missed Claire this much. Tears ran down her pale face.
Chloe turned around, and saw a huge ferris wheel. She’d taken her time to walk there and sat in a cart. The cart started to move up slowly. When it reached the top, she wiped her tears as she stared at the view. She saw the whole park from there. She thought she experienced a déjà vu at first. Then she realized that it wasn’t a déjà vu, she already saw this view with Owen. It’s the same exact location where she had her first kiss. Chloe’s mind spun fast. Before she knew it, the cart reached the ground. She got off immediately; she knew if she stayed longer, it’ll hurt her again. She never met him for a long time and it’s killing her.
Suddenly, Chloe felt something warm wrapped around her. She looked down and found an oversized grey jacket was around her small body.
Chloe smiled, “Hey Owen.”
